Kary Westphal, age 76, of Clifton passed away on Aug. 4, 2024, at Bickford House in Bourbonnais.


Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Schreffler Funeral Home in Kankakee. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Cabery.


Kary was born November 15, 1947, in Kankakee, the daughter of Eldon and Thelma (Fortin) Alwine. She married Doug Westphal on May 23, 1998 in Captiva Island, Fl. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2008.


Kary enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, and walking along sandy beaches. She also enjoyed crocheting and donated most of her work to Catholic Charities and the Veterans’ Home at Manteno. She was the store manager at Westphal Jewelers and worked there for 33 years. While there, she earned many certifications through the Gemological Institute of America. She was also a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bradley, Il.


Surviving are one son, Jeff Thompson, of Bourbonnais, one daughter, Aimee (Jim) McCurry of Clifton, two stepsons, Darren (Lisa) Westphal of Bradley, Scott (Dawn) Westphal of Frankfort, and one stepdaughter Kristy (Jason) Witt of Waukesha, Wisconsin; and six grandchildren, Mackenzie and Hanna Thompson, Jacob, Jeffrey, Joshua, and Johnathan McCurry, and four step-grandchildren, Leigan, Amelia, and Chloe Westphal and Griffin Witt; and two sisters, Diane Jemar of Clifton and Sue (Bob) Stein of Appleton, Wi. She also has many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Eldon and Thelma Alwine, her first husband, Larry Thompson, and one brother-in-law, Ed Jemar.
