Homer T. (Theodore) Martin of Bradley, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at the age of 97, surrounded by his wife, Mary Therese (Smith) Martin and his children.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held from 9-11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at Noon on Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. Inurnment will follow at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais.

Homer was born the son of Ovide L. Martin and Verena (Allagaier) on May 14, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents; his three brothers, Harry, his twin, Robert and Arthur; and his three sisters, Leola Glassford, Dorothy Byrne, and Betty Martin; and one daughter, Jacquelyn Keller.

Homer married Mary Therese Smith on November 6, 1954, and they have shared a loving marriage for almost 70 years. They were blessed with five children, Barbara (Mike) Henry of Joliet, Jackie (Karl) Keller of Manteno, Patrick (Sheila) Martin of Manteno, Meghan (Mike) Downey of Bourbonnais, and Joanne (Steve) Boettinger of Whitefish Bay, WI. They have fourteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, of which they have spent many years loving and enjoying all of their activities.

Homer’s 97 years were filled with joys of faith, family, construction, gardening, and golf (not necessarily in that order). He was in the National Guard during the Korean Conflict and spent time in Korea and Japan where he and his twin brother played baseball. Homer spent all of his working years in the construction business, first with his father and then with his twin brother. He was a member of the Carpenters’ union Local 496. Many of their projects are still standing strong around the Kankakee area today.

Homer was a life-long parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley, of which he helped build. He was a member of the Kankakee Elks Country Club for over 50 years, where he shot his age numerous times and had at least five holes in one. He also was known to cross-country ski the links during the winter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Hospice in Park Ridge, IL or St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley.

We are so grateful for the kind and loving care that was given to Homer during his time at Courtyard Estates in Herscher.
