With deep sadness his family announces the passing of Howard Lawrence Hayes of Bradley Illinois. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, Bourbonnais. A funeral mass will be celebrated at noon on Friday, December 20, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery, Bourbonnais.
Howard was born December 17, 1934, in Detroit, Michigan to Everett and Florence Hayes.
He was proceeded in death by his loving wife Beverly of 39 years, his parents Everett and Florence Hayes, his beloved brother Edward Hayes, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Harold and Hazel Duncan.
Howard was the beloved husband of Beverly Joan Hayes from March 21, 1954 until her passing on September 20, 1993; Father to Vickie Schillerstrom of Naperville, Illinois, Toni Hayes Kruse of Phoenix, Arizona, Gayle (Henry) Dominicis of Addison Illinois; Cherished Grandfather to Brittany Schillerstrom of Naperville, IL, Nathan Schillerstrom of Chicago, IL Mia Dominicis (Stephen) Salata of Chicago, IL, and Henry Dominicis of Oak Park, IL. He is also survived by his loving partner, Patty Clancy, his dear sister, Mary Johnson, and countless dear friends and other family members who cherished him deeply.
Howard grew up in Bradley Illinois and worked extremely hard throughout his entire life. He worked with his hands, plastering, remodeling, building, etc. His work ethic was extraordinary. Howard leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and a strong passion for his family and life in general. He took pride in helping anyone and everyone who crossed his path who may have needed something. He was a well-respected legend in the car business for over 60 years, managing several large automobile dealerships in Kankakee County. He trained, mentored, and coached many young people in the industry to become successful professionals. He founded his own business, Quality Motorcars in the early 90’s.
He graduated from Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School. He served on the school board for Bradley Elementary School District and was very active in the community. He was a member of the Lions Club and supported the Hundred Club of Kankakee County. He was a man of strong faith and supported St. Joseph’s Catholic Church throughout his life.
Howard thoroughly enjoyed golfing at Aspen Ridge on the Senior Men’s Golf League. He also loved vacationing in Puerto Vallarta for many years, and had a grand and generous personality, larger than life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley, IL, the Hundred Club of Kankakee County.
