William D. “Bill” Hammond, age 92, of Kankakee passed away September 30, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.

Private services have been held.

Bill was born March 25, 1930 in Kankakee to William A. and Flo ‘Shepard’ Hammond. He married Eileen Kohl in 1965 in Wheaton, Il.

Bill worked as a seafood manager at Kroger for 12 years until his retirement. He loved drinking beer and watching the White Sox.

Bill is survived by his wife, Eileen, of Kankakee; five children, David Hammond of Vermont, Michael (Carrie) Schalk of Hoffman Estates, Dan (Jeanette) Hammond of Rockford, Michael (Jennifer) Hammond of Bourbonnais, Peggy Swanlund of California; 8 grandchildren, Nierika Nims and Julian Hammond of Massachusetts, Emily (Mason) Prairie of Bourbonnais, Megan and Matthew Schalk of Hoffman Estates, Lorelei and Liam Hammond of Rockford, John Swanlund of California; and one great grandchild Maya Nims of Massachusetts. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one son Timothy Hammond.
