Mable “Myrtle” Saffer, age 95 of Kankakee, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at her daughter’s home.
She was born on September 8, 1927, in Norton Township, the daughter of Thomas and Estella (Cart) Crawford. Myrtle married John Saffer on February 8, 1948, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1989.
Myrtle is a retired employee of Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. She was a graduate of Herscher High School.
Myrtle was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley. She enjoyed crocheting and loved animals.
Surviving are four sons and three daughters-in-law, David (Eva) Saffer of Moore, OK, Gary (Jenny) Saffer of Aurora, CO, Ronald (Tammy) Saffer of Fort Smith, AR, Patrick Saffer of Littleton, CO; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Yvonne Saffer of Littleton, CO, Judy (John) Surprenant of Kankakee, Diane Saffer of Littleton, CO, Michelle Saffer of Littleton, CO, Karen (Edward) Ravens of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters, Alice Buckley of Kankakee and Emma Mae King of Herscher; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; three daughters, Linda, Lois, and Paula Kay; two sons, Norman and Jeffrey; one son-law, Larry Meinecke, one brother, Thomas Crawford; and one granddaughter, Tornetta Saffer.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Homes, Bourbonnais. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bradley. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Herscher.
