Barbara Jean Dumey, 83, of Kankakee passed away peacefully Monday, June 24, 2019 at Miller Health Care in Kankakee.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with funeral service immediately following at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. Burial will be held at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais.
Barbara was born May 7, 1936 in Kankakee, the daughter of Emory E. Potter & Adelaide R. Fortier.
Barbara was a 1954 graduate of St. Patrick High School in Kankakee. On May 4, 1957 she married Donald A. Dumey at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Kankakee and was a loving, devoted wife. He preceded her in death on October 2, 2014.
She attended St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley. She was a homemaker but also worked several years at the General Foods Coupon Center. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children and laughing with her grandchildren. She loved creating and decorating her home. Barb had a sweet disposition and was always kind, caring, and giving to all. Her family will cherish her life and carry her memory in their hearts.
Surviving are one son, Steven (Anna) Dumey of Bourbonnais; two daughters, Pamela Sommer of Bourbonnais, and Beth Dumey of Palatine; a brother, Richard Potter of Surprise, AZ; a sister, Nancy (Don) Born of Bradley; three sisters-in-law, Marge Potter of Kankakee, Pauline Loucks of Seal Beach, CA, and Joan Kight of Delta, MO; three grandchildren, Nick (Emily) Dumey of Bourbonnais, Justin (Ashley) Sommer of Bourbonnais, and Noelle Dumey of Springfield, IL; one great-grandchild, William Andrew Dumey, and another one on the way. Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, James Potter; one granddaughter, Jodi Lynn Sommer; and one unborn great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the Dementia Society of America or to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley
or to the family wishes.
